Bulletin 2 - July 2006

Time to start planning your trip to Australia for the next Glenister Gathering, to be held

from Friday 28th March 2008 5.00pm
to Sunday 30th March 2008 5.00pm
The event

The plan is to have a two day event with accommodation available at the same venue (see proposed program).

We would welcome any suggestions for topics. If you have a specific research interest, hitches and glitches you would like to share, biographical information on a ship or special Glenister relative, or more importantly, offers of assistance, please let us know.

As a follow up to the first Gathering in 2003 we would like to give you all the opportunity to meet and interact, exchange information or just be a part of a big family gathering.

The venue

The Gathering will be held at the Taverner York on Lilydale, located 45 minutes east of Melbourne in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.

Set in 4.5 hectares of natural bushland the York on Lilydale has 40 well appointed suites (inc 6 adjoining family rooms and 2 disabled rooms), a scenic lake, sporting facilities, solar heated swimming pool, cocktail bar, restaurant and family bistro.

All accommodation has been reserved for the Gathering and can be booked directly through the York on Lilydale. Bookings can be made through the website at www.yorktaverner.com.au

If you decide to stay a little longer, the venue is only a 20 minute drive to the beautiful Yarra Valley, home to some of Victoria's most popular wineries. The area is renowned for its food and wine and is home to many tourist attractions such as Healesville Sanctuary (a great place to see many of Australia's unique animals) and Puffing Billy Historic Railway.

A range of alternative accommodation is available so please contact Bronwen or see the accommodation summary for a list of accommodation options.

Costs and payments

Accommodation, including breakfast, is payable directly to the hotel of your choice. The Gathering fee will include all conference presentations, refreshments, meals and entertainment, including the Sunday winery lunch (but excluding breakfast). Costs are yet to be finalised, depending on numbers, but it is estimated that it will cost approximately $250 AUD per person, not including accommodation.
